Malignant Lymphoma with Involvement of Waldeyer’s Ring:: A Clinical Study of 24 Cases

Abstract
A retrospective review is presented of 24 previously untreaied patients with lymphoma of Waldeyer's ring(WR) between January 1972 through Uecembcr 1984 at the Keimyung University. The incidence of WR involvement of non-Hodgkin's lymphoma was 11. \% and of Hodgkin's disease was 4. 7%. The mean age was 4^. 8 year시 with male to female ratio of 1. 7 : 1.0. On admission, neck mass vras the most frequent symptom in 14 cases(5S.3%) and sore throat, odynophagia, dysphagia, hoarse:iess and nasal stuffiness were commonly presented. The anatomical ?distribution of the growth within Vv*R was a? follows: lonsii, 75.0% ; nasopharynx, 25.0%; base of tongue, 4. 2%. Histiocytic architecture predominated (S3.3%) and local-regional involvement (stage I and U) occurred in 7r>% vvitli this ni'.rpiiolo^y. Oiher histologic pattern was 2 cases of diffuse poorly-differentiated lymphocytic, 1 case of rvxlular poorly-differentiated lymphocytic lymphoma and 1 case of Hod^kin's disease with all in ach-anccd suu?e (stage ffl and 17). All of the local-regional disease were treated by irradiation and i patierii were treau--d in addition with combination chemotherapy. Advanced disease v.xrc treated initially by combination chemotherapy. Response rate (complete response plus partial response) of siatre I and Yi v/as (>0% and stage HI and W was 50%.
