Abstract
Adriamycin is a chemotherapeutic agent highly effective against a wide range of neoplasms. A primary limiting factor to the administration of this drug is a cardiotoxicity; which frequently develops when the cumulative dose exceeds 500 mg/m3. Cardiomyopa isolated from the common bile duct (CBD) ligated rats; which were injected with taurocholic acid (TCA); The activities of liver cytosolic; mitochondrial and microsomal PAT as well as their Vmax values were found to be significantly increased in the CBD ligation plus TCA injected group than in the control group; such as CBD ligation alone group. However; their Km values in the experimental group did not vary. On the other hand; these hepatic enzyme activities did not change in the CBD ligation plus tauroursodeoxycholic acid injected group. Therefore; the above results indicate that TCA stimulates biosynthesis of the PAT in the livery and echocardiography.
