Abstract |
Results from studies to date suggest that cognitive-behavioral interventions are useful for aiding benzodiazepine(BZD) discontinuation while maintaining good clinical outcome in contrast to pharmacotherapy in panic disorder. The author reports the successful treatment results after 13 weekly sessions of individual cognitive -behavioral therapy (CBT) for a 30-year?old female patient with panic disorder without agoraphobia. Post-treatment and 4-month follow-up assessments revealed panic remission and significant improvement in panic?related measurements. She was given a modified CBT including mainly cognitive techniques without behavioral experiments and the use at home of a audiotape of panic control treatment(PCT) designed by Dr. Barlow and Dr. Craske. PCT is composed of informational component; somatic management skills; cognitive restructuring; interoceptive exposure; and in vivo exposure.
