A Survey of Intimacy and Sexuality concerns of patients on hemodialysis

Abstract
Human sexuality is an important aspect of a healthy life that is disturbed by uremia This study identified concerns regarding the sexual dysfunction experienced by patients on hemodialysis. 45 subjects on hemodialysis were enrolled in this study The data was gathered by questionnaire which included sociodemographics;di?sease ? related variables; physical activity; life satisfaction; sexual activity;intimacy and sexual satisfaction 46 7% of subjects were men and 53.3% of them were women A majority of subjects could care for themselves and were satisfied with their life 71.1% of the subjects received hemodialysis treatment three times a week. Only 24.4% of them had received instruction regarding this dysfunction. The majority of subjects had felt a positive sexual attitude; decreasing intimacy of couple and moderate sexual satisfaction. The relationship between the level of physical activity and sexual satisfaction was significant (r= 27; p=.06). The relationship between life satisfaction and the intimacy of the couple was significant Cr= 34; p= 02) The relationship between intimacy and sexual satisfaction was significant (r=.52; p= 00) This indicated the necessity of the development of effective intervention in nursing care regarding hemodialysis patients with sexual dysfunction
